This Privacy Policy explains how Ryse Athletic Club (“Ryse,” “we,” “us”) handles personal information when you visit our website, sign up for a membership or day pass, or use our member services. By using our site and services, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- ▸Contact and account details — name, email, phone, date of birth, and (for minors) parent/guardian information.
- ▸Membership and visit data — membership tier, sign-up and waiver records, check-ins, and door-access activity.
- ▸Payment information — processed by our payment and billing providers; we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
- ▸Identity verification data — a government ID image and a selfie used to confirm your identity at sign-up (see Section 3).
- ▸Site usage data — basic analytics such as pages visited and device/browser information.
2. How we use your information
- ▸Create and manage your membership, day passes, and account.
- ▸Verify your identity and provision secure door access.
- ▸Process payments and billing through our providers.
- ▸Communicate with you about your membership, bookings, and (with your consent) offers.
- ▸Operate, secure, and improve our site and services, and meet legal obligations.
3. Biometric information (Illinois BIPA)
To confirm your identity at sign-up, our identity-verification provider may scan your government ID and a selfie, which can involve a scan of facial geometry. Under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), that is “biometric information.”
- ▸Purpose: solely to verify your identity when you join, which protects members and supports 24/7 access.
- ▸Consent: we request your written consent before any biometric scan, and you may decline and verify in person at the front desk instead.
- ▸No sale: we do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric information.
- ▸Retention & destruction: biometric data is retained only as long as needed for the verification purpose and then permanently destroyed, in line with our retention schedule and applicable law. Where the verification is performed by our vendor, the data is handled under the vendor's BIPA-compliant process.
4. How we share information
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the gym, and only as needed:
- ▸ABC Fitness — membership billing and member management.
- ▸Openpath / Avigilon Alta — door access control.
- ▸Our identity-verification vendor — ID and selfie verification.
- ▸Our payment processor — day-pass and booking payments.
- ▸Email and text providers — member communications.
- ▸Hosting and infrastructure providers (such as Supabase and Vercel) — to run the site and store data securely.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide services, meet legal and tax obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Waiver records are kept as long as legally prudent. Biometric data is handled per Section 3.
6. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify affected individuals and authorities of a breach as required by Illinois law.
7. Your choices
- ▸Marketing: you can opt out of promotional emails/texts at any time.
- ▸Access & corrections: contact us to review or update your information.
- ▸Account questions: the front desk can help with membership and data requests.
8. Children
Memberships for minors require a parent or guardian to provide information and consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here with an updated date. Material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
